....Santa Barbara Local Resources

Alpha Resource Center
is a multifaceted service center for persons with developmental disabilities. In addition to operating it's famous Alpha Thrift stores in downtown Santa Barbara and now in Goleta, Alpha offers adult services, family services (see Family First), the Wellness Project, advocacy and resource libraries. Alpha is a non-profit community agency which works with, but is not the same as, Tri-Counties Regional Center (TCRC).

ASA - Santa Barbara Chapter (ASASB)

is the SB affiliate of the Autism Society of America. A must-contact resource for local families and others with ASD concerns.



Dyslexia Awareness and Resource Center (DARC)
has served over 25,000 clients and mailed thousands of information packets to people throughout California, the nation, and the world. Ninety percent of the clients who come to the center are directed to further help through private or government programs.
The center provides direct one-on-one services to adults and children affected with dyslexia, attention disorders and other learning disabilities. The center also provides services to the families and to parents with children affected with dyslexia, attention disorders and other learning disabilities. In addition the center conducts outreach and training seminars for public and private schools, for the juvenile court systems, for drug and alcohol programs, for family and social service programs, for literacy programs, and for homeless and mission programs. DARC maintains an extensive book, video and audio library featuring the most up to date material on dyslexia, attention disorders and other learning disabilities.

Tri-Counties Regional Center
is the basic gateway to services for people with developmental disabilities in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties. It provides assessment, case management and referral and serves as the point of entry of the Early Start Program for children 0-3 who are at risk for developmental delay or disability.

First Signs
is a national non-profit organization dedicated to educating parents and pediatric professionals about the early warning signs of autism and other developmental disorders. Its goals are to improve screening and referral practices and to lower the age at which young children are identified with autism and other developmental disorders. To this end, First Signs produces an outstanding kit for pediatricians which emphasizing developmental milestones.



Hearing

The Center for the Education of the Infant Deaf (CEID)
is a California nonprofit organization serving families who reside throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. CEID is a model early intervention program for babies and young children who have hearing impairments and severe speech and language delays. Established in 1980 as a federally funded demonstration project, CEID's unique family-centered program is dedicated to helping very young children acquire meaningful and competent communication skills during the critical years of brain development and learning.
